Joan's Watercolor Wonders

About Joan

I was born in Roswell, New Mexico and I loved to paint and color all through school. I attended high school in Rome, Italy and Nurnenberg, Germany. I had many opportunities to study art history which kept my interest in art at a high level.I attended the University of New Mexico and took some art class but at that time it was not my major. I married in Shreveport, Louisiana, had 4 children so did not pursue my interest in art until my youngest was in high school. I started painting in oils and then took a watercolor class from Marie Butler. I fell in love with vibrant  colors and transparency of the watercolor paints and have been painting  mostly in watercolor since then.

I have been a serious watercolorist for the last 30 years. I lived in Aspen, Colorado for 14 years and showed my work in restaurants, the Aspen Art  Museum and my own gallery in Basalt, Colorado. I am a member of the Hoover Watercolor Society and the Louisiana Watercolor Society. I have studied art at Colorado Mountain College with Dottie Fox. I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and showed my art there. I have taken workshops from well known artists , Barbara Nechis, Jeannie Carbonetti, Sara Steele, Antis Lundy, Tom Lynch, Ray Vinilla, Laura Robb and others. I teach watercolor classes in my home. I love the challenge of watercolor and my art is my creative spirit.
